of Mabhuri Maheswari Solidarity Group in
Orissa,
India
|
ForeignAID Ratings
team leader previously led an international team to monitor and
evaluate CARE’s rural microfinance program in
Orissa, India.
Designed to empower rural poor women by increasing their incomes and
economic security, this seven-year microfinance program is funded
through a $15 million grant from the U.K.’s Department for
International Development. As co-author of the evaluation study,
ForeignAID Ratings team leader traveled to the field to measure the
impact of and make recommendations to the microfinance program. He
formulated the evaluation methodology, based on quantitative and
qualitative data, and led individual and group interviews to key
stakeholders such as CARE’s partner-microfinance institutions,
solidarity groups and individual women clients to analyze the
effectiveness of the program. |

ForeignAID Ratings team leader previously designed a ratings
tool to evaluate microfinance institutions (MFIs) in
India for
PlaNet Finance.
Based on quantitative and qualitative data, the ratings tool evaluates
an MFI’s portfolio performance, management systems, financial
resources, products and services, organizational governance (board and
human resources), alliances and collaborations, and sustainability.
ForeignAID Ratings team leader also designed the methodology to apply
the ratings tool and an appropriate weighting scheme, which emphasizes
an MFI’s level of sustainability. |
