ForeignAID Ratings team members have evaluated and certified grassroots NGOs and NGO networks in Ghana, India, the Philippines, Peru, Ecuador, Guyana, Zambia, Guinea, Kenya, and Zimbabwe, for example, and have partnered with Hewlett Packard, Lehman Brothers, JP Morgan, 3Com, McKinsey and Company, Sierra Atlantic, and the Infinity Foundation to lead ICT-for-development initiatives in Ghana, Mali, Ecuador and India.

ForeignAID Ratings team leader, Shiv, interviews microfinance clients of Mabhuri Maheswari  Solidarity Group in
Orissa, India

 

ForeignAID Ratings team leader previously led an international team to monitor and evaluate CARE’s rural microfinance program in Orissa, India.  Designed to empower rural poor women by increasing their incomes and economic security, this seven-year microfinance program is funded through a $15 million grant from the U.K.’s Department for International Development.  As co-author of the evaluation study, ForeignAID Ratings team leader traveled to the field to measure the impact of and make recommendations to the microfinance program.  He formulated the evaluation methodology, based on quantitative and qualitative data, and led individual and group interviews to key stakeholders such as CARE’s partner-microfinance institutions, solidarity groups and individual women clients to analyze the effectiveness of the program.



ForeignAID Ratings team leader previously designed a ratings tool to evaluate microfinance institutions (MFIs) in
India for PlaNet Finance.  Based on quantitative and qualitative data, the ratings tool evaluates an MFI’s portfolio performance, management systems, financial resources, products and services, organizational governance (board and human resources), alliances and collaborations, and sustainability.  ForeignAID Ratings team leader also designed the methodology to apply the ratings tool and an appropriate weighting scheme, which emphasizes an MFI’s level of sustainability.

ICT Development Success Stories

ForeignAID Ratings team members have partnered with Hewlett Packard, Cisco Systems, Inc., Sovereign Bank, and the CEO of McKinsey and Company, among others, to build ICT centers in needy schools and universities in Ecuador, Ghana, India, Mali, New York City, West Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.  Below is a sample of ForeignAID Ratings success stories.

Team Awarded $1 Million For Efforts To Bridge The Digital Divide With Computing Infrastructure In Ghana

ForeignAID Ratingsteam members, while at the University of Pennsylvania , received a grant of Hewlett-Packard equipment and services totaling $1.12 million to lay the foundation for a high-speed information and communicationinfrastructure in the West African nation of Ghana .

Inauguration of Ecuador’s first Internet-connected computer lab in a public elementary school.

ForeignAID Ratings team members led the “Formando Un Puente”—Building a Bridge—Delegation to build Ecuador’s first internet-connected computer lab in a public elementary school. Built in partnership with 3Com and SatNet, the computer lab put a smile on the faces of students at Escuela Fiscal Zoila Ugarte de Landivar and has added a new facet to the education at the school.

ForeignAID Ratings team members partnered with Lehman Brothers, JP Morgan, Sovereign Bank, Reliance Industries, and 3Com to build a ten-workstation computer lab with Universal Power Supply at the YMV Vocational Training Institute serving disadvantaged women in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
